1800blogger Says Donovan McNabb is Wrong
Wednesday, September 19th, 2007In an upcoming interview with James Brown to be aired on HBO, Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback tells Brown that black quarterbacks face more pressure than white quarterbacks. He reportedly says, “because there are those that still don’t want black athletes playing the position.”
McNabb is correct that there are bigots in society that believe black athletes are too dumb to play the position but to even insinuate that this is a prevailing opinion around the NFL is simply wrong. I am certain that people such as Bob Kraft and Jerry Jones wouldn’t care if a dumb alien was playing quarterback, as long as that alien could throw a deep out to a person who can run a 4-3 forty.
I played football when I was a kid and I’m not sure when society has arrived at the opinion that you have to be smart to play quarterback in the NFL. Odds are against us that Peyton Manning or Donovan McNabb are splitting any atoms anytime soon.
As Bill Parcells once said, “When you’re big and strong and fast, you’re usually good.” That has nothing to do with brains. If you’re big and strong and you could throw a football accurately, you usually make a good quarterback - has nothing to do with brains. Sorry Donovan…….

Could You Sleep Last Night?
Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007If I was on the list of players that bought steroids from the ex-clubhouse attendant of the New York Mets, I would be losing sleep. Radomski faces up to 25 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
Let’s just say for entertainment purposes that Radomski was offered 3 months off his sentence for every name that he gives to George Mitchell whose team is leading the investigation into steroids for Major League Baseball. I’d bet that he would walk free
How to Identify a Racist?
Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007I was listening to the radio this morning and a man called in to a sports talk show and asked:
With the all the problems in basketball, football and basketball, how come we never hear about these problems in hockey?
Geez, have some balls. Ask the question you really wanted to ask Mr. Sports Talk Radio Call-In Guy. How come we never hear of these problems in a sport with all white guys?

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007Michael Vick is the Worst …….
Tuesday, August 21st, 2007Is it me or am I the only person that thinks that there is more outrage over what Michael Vick did to the dogs than when an athlete beats his wife. Is it me?
What Should be Michael Vicks Punishment?
Monday, August 20th, 2007If Michael Vick was really involved directly in the drowning and hanging of these dogs in the dogfighting operation, then it’s a travesty that he would get anything less than 10 years in prison.
What do you think his punishment should be?
Rutgers Basketball Player Goes for Imus Gold
Wednesday, August 15th, 2007I was real disappointed to hear that a Rutgers basketball player was suing Imus over his infamous comments on the Imus in the Morning show. After watching the press conference with the Rutgers lady’s basketball team after Imus spoke those ridiculous words, I concluded that those girls represent the best of America. Now, the first and probably not the last has decided to sue Imus. I’ve changed my opinion?
Holy Cow are Cherished Words
Tuesday, August 14th, 2007My grandfather used to talk about yesterday and as I get older, I seem to talk about yesterday more and more.
Today, we heard about the unfortunate passing of Phil Rizzuto. Growing up in New York, my summers were filled with Ralph Kiner wishing fathers a Happy Mothers Day and Phil Rizutto filling my Sunday afternoons with crys of Holy Cow.
Thank you Scooter for the memories. You will be missed.
Racial Progress Has Been Made
Monday, August 13th, 2007Has anyone followed Tiger Woods around a golf tournament lately? Chances are that you haven’t because it’s impossible to follow Tiger. Why? Because thousands of people follow Tiger at every golf tournament. It was estimated that half of all people at every golf tournament either follow Tiger’s group or attempt to follow Tiger’s group. After winning his 13th major gold tournament this weekend, Tiger is the king of his sport. He also earns millions each year on endorsements.
Turn the clock back 30 years ago and check out Hank Aaron’s endorsement numbers. Unfair comparison? Compare his numbers to the white superstars of the 60’s and 70’s. It’s fair, trust me. Would love to hear your opinion.
Hammerin Hank Should Finally Get His Due
Wednesday, August 8th, 2007As Barry Bonds broke Hank Aarons record, we should finally come to realize how great Aaron was. We all know that, right. Guess again.
This morning, I was listening to Mike Greenberg on ESPN Radio and something he said really grabbed me. By the way, I’m a fan of the Mike and Mike show.
Greenberg was talking about the breaking of the record by Bonds and how important the record was. He said something to the effect that when I was growing up 715 was always the number referring to Ruth’s record. Think about this - Greenberg was born on August 6, 1967 which means that he was 6 when Aaron was crowned the Home Run King. I would wonder how many black 6 year olds in the country after Aaron broke the record thought that 715 was the number. It’s amazing to me to think this but after that night in April 1974, how many white sports fans including this one actually crowned Hank Aaron as the Home Run King. Because when Mike Greenberg was growing up ( and I actually think that he was referring to the ages between 6-12, not 3). the number should have always been Hank’s new number. What do you think?

If Barry Bonds Could Do it Over Again
Monday, August 6th, 2007If Barry could do it over again, would he take steroids? Of course, I have no proof that he did but it seems that most believe that he did. Of course, he wouldn’t have tied Hank’s record if he didn’t take steroids. However, there’s little debate that this guy is one of the greatest players that ever lived. It’s that simple. What do you think?
