Junk In - Junk Out
August 14, 2007 – 2:28 pm | by adminA study from Cornell University concluded that the more magazine ads smokers see for cessation products, the more likely they are to quit smoking and be successful.
Sorry, I don’t buy it. In order to conclude that this is nothing more than junk science, I would want to have two groups with common inclusion parameters. Then, I would want to show one group advertisements about smoking cessation products. Then, nothing else until we check in at 1, 2 and 5 year intervals to gather the data. Then and only then can I conclude that reading advertisments could increase the chances of quitting and being successful.
When one conducts a scientific trial with a desired conclusion, then one should question the conclusion
Would love to hear your opinion on this one?
