Junk In - Junk Out
Tuesday, August 14th, 2007A study from Cornell University concluded that the more magazine ads smokers see for cessation products, the more likely they are to quit smoking and be successful.
Sorry, I don’t buy it. In order to conclude that this is nothing more than junk science, I would want to have two groups with common inclusion parameters. Then, I would want to show one group advertisements about smoking cessation products. Then, nothing else until we check in at 1, 2 and 5 year intervals to gather the data. Then and only then can I conclude that reading advertisments could increase the chances of quitting and being successful.
When one conducts a scientific trial with a desired conclusion, then one should question the conclusion
Would love to hear your opinion on this one?
